US National William gets conditional bail

Bhubaneswar: US national William Michel Hurtubise (27) whose bail plea was rejected on September 27 this year by a local court here got a sigh of relief on Monday after the Sessions Court granted conditional bail on a surety deposit of Rs 50,000 after a month of his arrest.

William was arrested on September 18 by the commissionerate police on the charge of possessing illegal ammunition of eight live bullets in his luggage during a routine check at the Biju Patnaik Airport here.

William was released on conditional bail on Monday evening from Jharpada Special Jail here. However, he would not be able to leave the country or the state till he is acquitted by the court or found not guilty during investigation by the Commissionerate Police.

“The Session court hearing the bail application of William granted him conditional bail on Rs 50,000 surety deposit. The court directed him to surrender his pass port and Visa with the sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here. The court also granted bail on the condition that he would appear before the court till the trial is not over,” said William’s counsel Raj Kishore Das.

“The case is under investigation and we would file a fresh petition in this connection with the court here after consulting with William,” Das added.
