Hardcore Maoist arrested


Rourkela: Rourkela Police along with Special squad today arrested a hardcore Maoist cadre from Kaliaposh-Jharbeda jungle area on Odisha-Jharkhand border under Bisra Police limits.

Briefing media persons here, Rourkela SP, Himanshu Lal informed that acting on intelligence inputs about movement of maoists in the area, police along with Special squad immediately swung into action by launching an operation early in the morning.

Police arrested Ram Gagrai (23) alias Ram alias Chhotu, a armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) of Tirilposhi village under Jaraikela Police limits of West Singhbhum, Jharkhand. He is highly active in Saranda forest of Odisha-Jharkhand border area.

On interrogation, he confessed to have been involved in Langalkata encounter case under K Balang Police Station. He is also involved in a number of maoist violence cases in Odisha-Jharkhand border area since 2008, including abduction and murder of villagers at Topadihi and Lagalkata under K Balang PS during December 2010. He had joined the Maoist organization in 2007 being threatened and picked-up by Anmol Hembram alias Samarji, the then secretary/spokesman of the Dakshin Chhotanagpur Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoists), informed Lal.

Chhotu is also named accused in murder case of Ex-Home Guard Kandri Lohar (28) alias Barua and her minor son Sib Barua (4) on February 12, 2012 near Mahipani Railway gate under Bisra PS. He will be forwarded to the court today, said Lal.

Prior to this four hardcore Maoists namely Salkhan Oram, Dahru Munda, Manguli Purti alias Pui and Bipin Kumar Sahani alias Lambu were arrested and forwarded to the Court in connection to the Langalkata encounter case.
