RSP registers best ever production in 11 months


Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company, Steel Authority of India Ltd., has maintained its excellent track record by registering its best ever production performance in the first 11 months of the current fiscal in key areas.

The Steel Plant produced 21,55,821 tonnes of Hot Metal, 20,09,425 tonnes of Crude Steel and 19,41,341 tonnes of saleable Steel during April 2012-February 2013, which are the highest ever figures since inception.

Besides, the Steel plant has created new records in making 32,97,063 tonnes of Sinter. With the production of 8,58,169 tonnes of HR coil for sale, RSP registered a growth of 15.5 per cent over the Corresponding Period Last Year (CPLY).

In the production of Spiral Weld Pipes, the Steel plant recorded a growth of 30 per cent while in the production of Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Steel, the improvement was 16.1 per cent. The production of Cold Rolled Sheets and Coils also witnessed a growth of 3.3 per cent.

The Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II) of RSP created history in the month of February by achieving record lining life of 6842 heats for its converter-‘B’. The previous best was 6543 heats achieved by converter-‘A’ in September 2011.

Best technological parameters were also registered during April 2012-February 2013 in Coke Rate, Blast Furnace productivity, Coal to Hot Metal Ratio and Specific Energy Consumption.
