RSP registers best ever production in 11 months

Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company, Steel Authority of India Ltd., has maintained its excellent track record by registering its best ever production performance in the first 11 months of the current fiscal in key areas.

The Steel Plant produced 21,55,821 tonnes of Hot Metal, 20,09,425 tonnes of Crude Steel and 19,41,341 tonnes of saleable Steel during April 2012-February 2013, which are the highest ever figures since inception.

Besides, the Steel plant has created new records in making 32,97,063 tonnes of Sinter. With the production of 8,58,169 tonnes of HR coil for sale, RSP registered a growth of 15.5 per cent over the Corresponding Period Last Year (CPLY).

In the production of Spiral Weld Pipes, the Steel plant recorded a growth of 30 per cent while in the production of Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Steel, the improvement was 16.1 per cent. The production of Cold Rolled Sheets and Coils also witnessed a growth of 3.3 per cent.

The Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II) of RSP created history in the month of February by achieving record lining life of 6842 heats for its converter-‘B’. The previous best was 6543 heats achieved by converter-‘A’ in September 2011.

Best technological parameters were also registered during April 2012-February 2013 in Coke Rate, Blast Furnace productivity, Coal to Hot Metal Ratio and Specific Energy Consumption.

Santhali writer nominated for Sahitya Academy award

Rourkela: Gangadhar Hansda, a banker and litterateur has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Kendriya Sahitya Academy Award’ for the year 2012 for his collection of short stories in Santhali language, ‘Banchaw Akan Gojhona’. Hansda, an eminent Santhali writer and Santhali culture activist, has devoted himself to the popularization of Santhali literature and culture after retiring as a Branch Manager from Union Bank of India. His contribution to Santhali literature includes short stories, essays, history, one act play and novels. He has published eight books till date. Plus two exams to start from March 1

Rourkela: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha today declared that it would conduct Plus Two examinations from March 1 to 30. While examination will be held for all the three streams- Arts, Science and Commerce, exam for vocational education will also be held during the month. Examination for theory papers will be held from March 1 to March 23 and those for practical papers will be held on the rest of the days, informed Yashobant Behera, Controller of Examinations, CHSE. He also informed that the examinations will be conducted in two sittings to accommodate all the students. While around three lakh students are expected to appear in the plus two examinations in the State, examination forms can be filled from January 2 to 21.
