Steel City to host Natak Mahotsav-2013 from March 27

Rourkela: In its continued bid to breathe life into dying art forms and promote cultural activities, Sampark, a socio cultural organization of Rourkela, is going to organize a national-level theatre festival ‘Natak Mahotsav-2013’ for the third time at Civic Centre here.

The theatre festival will commence from March 27 on the occasion of World Theatre Day and will continue till March 31. Briefing newsmen here, Bhaskar Chandra Mohapatra, secretary, Sampark, said the national grade theatre festival is being organized in Rourkela since 2011.

“To maintain the glory and keep alive the dying form of theatre in Rourkela as well in our State, this organization is organizing theatre festival every year. This year, eminent theatre personalities from Bhopal, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and local groups will participate. As many as 115 artists will participate in the 5-day theatre festival. The programme will start from 6.30 pm evening”, Mohapatra added.

He further said that to make the festival successful, all necessary arrangements have been made for its publicity in the form of posters, leaflets, hoardings at different places and a CD to spread information with the help of vehicle on theatre festival.

The festival is being organized in collaboration with Union Ministry of Culture, Eastern Zone Cultural Centre, Rourkela Steel Plant and Department of Culture, Government of Odisha.

The cultural outfit will organize a Theatre Road March from Shree Jagannath Mandir, Sector-3 to Social Home, Sector-4 with a Play ‘Shrimati Samarjani’ which will be presented by Nayika, Rourkela on its inaugural day.

Apart from this, from day two, Nyasa group from Bhopal will stage ‘Shamsan Mahavarat’ (Hindi), Howda Anuvash group from Kolkata will showcase ‘Derh Paiser Pala’ (Bengali). ‘Astha’ by Manana, Bhubaneswar and ‘Smruti Bismruti’ by Sampark Rourkela will also be staged in the theatre festival.

Sampark team will honour two eminent personalities for their contribution in socio-cultural field such as G S Prasad, CEO, Rourkela Steel Plant with Natya Bandhu Samman. Music director Ajay Kumar Pani of Rourkela and playwright Dr. Narayan Sahoo from Bhubaneswar will receive Sampark Samman.

Developmental trial of Astra missile conducted

Rourkela: India today conducted developmental trial of its indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ‘Astra’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore. The sophisticated missile was test-fired from a launcher in launch pad-2 of the ITR at about 01.25 PM targeting a flying object being supported by a pilotless target air-craft ‘Lakshya’, defence sources said. The single stage, solid fuelled ‘Astra’ missile is more advanced in its category than the contemporary BVR missiles and is capable of engaging and destroying highly manoeuvrable supersonic aerial targets. The 3.8-metre long missile, having a diameter of 178 mm with an overall launch weight of 160 kg, can carry a warhead containing conventional explosives weighing 15 kg. RSP CEO lays stress on profitability

Rourkela: Enhancement of profitability and NSR through improved despatch should be the prime objective of the employees, G S Prasad, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) said today during his visit to the units that have achieved the APP targets in the month of November. Accompanied by S N Roy, ED (Works), the CEO went on a visit to the Sinter Plant-II, Pipe Coating Plant, SWPP, Hot Strip Mill and R & C Lab. At each of these departments, Prasad interacted with employees and lauded them for their excellent contribution and discussed about the future endeavours. He laid emphasis on increasing the despatch to maintain profitability of the plant. Employees, on their part, assured the CEO that they would strive further to improve their performance and bring greater glory to the plant.
