RSP staffs get insurance benefit under GPAIS

Rourkela: The first three claims under the Group Voluntary Personal Accident Insurance Scheme (GPAIS) were settled and G S Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), gave cheques amounting to a total of Rs. 32,143 to the claimants recently here.

S N Roy, ED (Works), D Basu, ED (P&A), R K Nehru, ED (MM), M K Das, ED (Projects), S K Acharya, ED (Projects) and many other senior officers of the plant were present on the occasion.

The three claimants who received the insurance amount are Sudhi Ranjan Sahoo, Assistant, Personnel Department, Rojalily Mallik, Office Attendant, Instrumentation and Paresh Chandra Behera, Master Technician, Power Distribution. They were granted claims of Rs. 8571, Rs. 7143 and Rs. 16,429 respectively.

The scheme was made effective from December 1, 2012. Employees were given the option to become members of the scheme that aims at providing relief in case of death, permanent and total disability/ permanent partial disability/ temporary total disablement due to accidents involving the employees and their family members.

An employee can enrol his/her eligible family members along with himself/herself under the GPAIS, which is being operated by Oriental Insurance Company (OIC) Ltd. The premium for insurance coverage for capital sum of Rs. 1 Lakh per insured person was Rs. 28 while an employee could opt for a Capital Sum Insured for Rs. 5 lakh or Rs. 10 Lakh or Rs. 15 Lakh for both self and earning spouse. For non-earning spouse, there was a provision for Capital Sum Insured of Rs. 2 Lakh. For dependent children aged between 5 to 25 years, there was a provision for Capital Sum Insured of Rs. 1 Lakh each.

Notably, a total of 13516 employees of RSP have become members of the new scheme, which will also cover 23101 family members. The insurance coverage shall be valid for a period of one year i.e. up to the midnight of 30th November 2013.
