Home guards lauded for commitment to duty
Rourkela: The 51st Odisha Home Guards annual day was celebrated with
fanfare and gaiety at the Uditnagar ground here today where Superintendent of
Police and Commandant of home guards, Rourkela Himanshu Lal unfurled the
organizational flag and took the salute from them.
Speaking on
the occasion and being the Chief Guest, Lal lauded the role of home guards as
the auxiliary force of the State Police in the maintenance of internal
security.
The home
guards perform various duties to help the community in emergency situations
such as air-raids, fire, epidemics and natural calamities. Besides, they
promote communal harmony, assist the administration in protecting the weaker
sections and participate in socio-economic and welfare activities, he added.
“Since the
home guards perform multifarious duties, without them the existence of police
is not possible,” Lal pointed out.
The SP also
read out the messages of the Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare and Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik on the occasion.
On this
occasion, ADM Rourkela Rabindranath Mishra said “The home guards are
wholeheartedly committed to the noble task of selfless service to the community
and their volunteers have provided excellent service to the people”.
He urged the
home guards to perform their duty selflessly in the coming days.
Later, a
mock drill on air-raid tactics was displayed by the home guards and civil
defence while another mock exercise of fire disasters was performed by the fire
brigade of SAIL.
Among
others, Additional SP Sudarsan Sethi, DIPRO, Rourkela Ajay Jena and senior
police officials were present.
