Master craftsmen showcase their creations
Rourkela: Art connoisseurs from the state and others are in for a treat as
more than 150 master craftmen from the country have showcased their exquisite
creations at the Gandhi Shilpa Bazar (GSB) here.
The
craftsmen have presented wood carving and furniture from Saharanpur and Delhi,
wood inlay, earthenware pots, Modern Arts murals ceramic, Rajasthan miniature
paintings, Rajasthan embroidery and footwear, dresses from Gujarat, dry
flowers, all kinds of leather items, jute products, vegetable print dress
materials, artificial imitation jewellery, gem stone jewellery, marble
painting, Karnataka silk sarees and Channapattan toys, all kinds of Terracotta
items and other handicrafts and handloom items.
Apart from
this, the fair has brought together a wide range of handicrafts and handloom
products from across the country. The expo features exclusive products ranging
from terracotta to artifacts. They also include dazzling and colour varieties
of Dhokra casting, stone carvings, palm leaf engraving and applique works of
Odisha, Maithili and Madhubani paintings. Tribal jewels, lace crafts of Bihar,
woollen carpets, conch shells, Kantha stitches, jute crafts of West Bengal,
cane and bamboo, Sitlapatti and Terracotta crafts of north eastern states,
glass toys, miniature paintings and many more.
The bazar
was inaugurated by the Collector of Sundargarh Roopa Roshan Sahoo along with
ADM Rourkela Rabindranath Mishra at Exhibition ground near Bhanja Bhawan here
yesterday.
On the occasion, Smt. Sahoo inspected all the stalls and
interacted with all the artisians who have from all directions of our country. Moving
to all stalls, Sahoo said India is known worldwide for its art and crafts and
numerous handicrafts fairs are held throughout the year. The artisans get a
chance of showcasing and selling their special handicrafts items in the art and
craft fair of India.
Assistant Director, Development Commissioner
(Handicrafts) B jena said that the main objective of conducting this mega event
GSB is to invite the artisans from all over the country to arrange for a direct
market linkage between the artisans and the art loving general public. The
participating craftsperson can feel the real needs and taste of the consumer
and can orient the designs as per the market requirement.
In order to create awareness and promote the
concept of Self Help Groups with variety of art and craft products, SHGs from
all over the country have been invited. The 10-day craft fair will continue
till December 31st, 2012. The opening time of the fair is 2 pm to 9 pm and on
Sunday and holidays, the timings is 10 am to 9 pm. The entry is free for all.
The Mela has been organised by the Development
Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New
Delhi, in co-ordination with State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts
(SIDAC), Bhubaneswar.
