Land acquisition set to begin for widening of NH-143
Rourkela: A land acquisition cell in the premises of old Tehesil Office was
opened yesterday in a bid to accelerate land acquisition process for widening
of the NH-143.
Sundargarh
Tehesildar Benedick Lakra along with ADM Rourkela Rabindranath Mishra
inaugurated the cell.
Official sources
said the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure had approved the four-laning of
125.615 km stretch of the Biramitrapur-Barkote section of NH-143 in Sundargarh
and Deogarh districts. The project would be implemented under Phase IV-A of the
National Highway Development Programme (NHDP) on Design Build Finance Operate
and Transfer (DBFOT) basis in BOT (toll) mode of delivery.
The sources
added that the total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1098.90 crore, out of
which Rs. 320.75 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, resettlement
and pre-construction works.
The expansion
is expected to ease heavy traffic plying between Biramitrapur and Barkote, part
from providing income generation for the local labourers, informed an official.
Meanwhile,
the tender for the project has been awarded to GAMON India Limited. However, as
the land acquisition has been facing hurdles, expansion work is getting
delayed. After the opening of new cell under the direct control of ADM Rourkela,
land acquisition process is expected to be sped up.
Notably,
that part of the NH has been witnessing traffic problems because of mineral
transportation. Traffic congestion has led to a number of accidents on this
part.
