“Tribal songs and dances have played a major role in enriching the cultural heritage of Odisha,” says CEO, RSP
Rourkela: “Odisha abounds with innumerable art forms and has a very rich
cultural history. The contribution of tribal songs and dances in
this regard is very substantial and significant,” said Gouri Shankar
Prasad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) while
addressing the audience at the closing ceremony of the Synergy Lok Sanskruti
Mahotsav, organized by the CSR wing of RSP at Bhanja Bhawan here on December
16, 2012.
Speaking about the objective of the Mahotsav, Prasad said,
“Keeping with the tradition of its commitment to nurture and propagate the culture
of Odisha, RSP has taken the initiative to give an appropriate stage to the
artistes of our peripheral villages to showcase their expertise in the dances,
unique to this soil. I am sure that this would go a long way in the promotion
of indigenous art and culture and provide a forum for display of local
talents.”
He also elaborated how these dance forms have earned recognition
and even found place in films.
The CEO presented cash award to the winners of the final round
dance competition of the Lok Sanskruti Mahotsav. Birkera Saliatoli team emerged
champion while teams from Dalposh and Sarubahal declared 1st and 2nd runners-up
respectively.
The dance extravaganza was inaugurated earlier in the day by
Manjari Prasad, president of Deepika Mahila Sanghati. In her address, Prasad
praised the initiative taken by the CSR wing of RSP in organizing
the Lok Sanskruti Mahotsav that would bring to the fore new dance
forms as well as fresh talent.
The dances presented by the teams were a feast for the eyes. The
colourful attires, the vibrant beats of the gongs, the collective singing and
above all the fluid dance movements made the occasion a memorable one. Even the
dignitaries present on the occasion could not stop themselves from joining in
this celebration of music and dance.
It may be recalled that zonal level dance competitions were held
in four blocks- Nuagaon, Lathikata, Kuarmunda and Bisra in Sundargarh district;
and the first three teams from each of the blocks participated in the grand
finale held at Bhanja Bhawan on December 16, 2012.
