Teachers and students are two sides of a coin: Minister


Rourkela: The Teachers’ Day Organizing Committee of Rourkela today celebrated Teachers’ Day to commemorate the birthday of renowned philosopher and former President of India Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.

Inaugurating the event, Commerce and Transport Minister Subrat Tarai, while praising the role of the teachers, said “Being a teacher of one, we are still a student of another. In the process, we are always a learner in day-to-day life”. He described the teachers and students as two side of a coin.

Chief Guest of the function Dr. Baisnab Charan Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor Ravenshaw University stressed on improvement in primary education system. He observed that education should be treated as investment, not expenditure.

Thanking the teachers, chief speaker and CEO of Rourkela Steel Plant G S Prasad spoke about the role and contribution of teachers to the society.

Among others, Sub-Collector Panposh S B Mishra, eminent educationist N P Das and ADM Rourkela R N Mishra also spoke on the occasion.

The event was followed by a mythological play by the students basing on the story on Aruni and sage Dhaumya which was widely appreciated by the audience. The drama was directed by Bhaskar Mahapatra of Udit Nagar High School. The Minister gave away Rs. 1001 award for the play.
