Mother-child complex to come up at RGH

Rourkela: In a bid to provide better mother and child health care services, the State Government has decided to set up a 100-bedded mother-child complex at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) premises here.

It may be mentioned that a decision was taken earlier to set up the said complex at Rourkela under National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) fund. But this evoked protests by some section of people who demanded this complex at Sundargarh district headquarters hospital. Later, the Government made an announcement in the Assembly to set up this complex both at Sundargarh and Rourkela.

However, at a high-level meeting held in Bhubaneswar recently, it was decided to set up the complex at Rourkela taking the number of patients in both the hospitals into consideration.

The preliminary work has already started for the construction of medical complex on 50 decimal of land for mother-child at RGH premises for which 15 crore rupees was sanctioned from the Centre through NHRM scheme and every year 3 crore rupees will be spent on it.

Chief Medical Officer of RGH R K Joshi informed that though a proposal to upgrade RGH as a full-fledged District Level Hospital has been submitted to the State Government two years ago, things are moving at a snail’s pace.
