SER GM urged to improve passenger service

Rourkela: Matters pertaining to improvement of passenger amenities, introduction of new trains, extension of some existing trains, increase of frequency of some trains and enhancement of number of air conditioned coaches were among a host of issues came up for discussion today during the visit of the General Manager of South Eastern Railway (SER), A K Verma to the steel city.

Representatives of different organizations during a discussion with the GM at the Officers’ Guest House of Rourkela Railway Station, requested him to take necessary steps for early completion of Bimalagarh-Talcher Rail Corridor, extension of railway line from Roxy siding to Bansapani via Koira, extension of railway line from Kiriburu to Barbil and rail connectivity from Angul to Sukinda via Rourkela-Talcher route.

They also demanded introduction of one new super fast day train like ‘Shatabdi’ or ‘Inter City’ from Jharsuguda or Rourkela to Howrah and vice-versa, a superfast train from Sambalpur to New Delhi via Rourkela, Ranchi, Gaya, Varanasi and Allahabad, and one express train from Tatanagar to Thiruvananthapuram via Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Chennai Central and Ernakulam.

They demanded extension of Tata-Amritsar Jaliwanwalabag Express, Hatia-Gorakhpur Express (Mourya), Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Express, Sambalpur-Nizamabad Express, Garib Rath Express, Ranchi-Bhagalpur Express, Tata-Chapra Express and Bilaspur-Yashwantpur Express via Secunderabad to Rourkela for the benefit of the passengers.

They also demanded increase in the frequency of trains such as Hatia-Yashwantpur Express to 3 days a week, Howrah-LTT Ganeswari Super Delux Express to 7 days a week and Sambalpur-Varanasi Express to 7 days a week.

In addition to these, they demanded one additional AC III tier coach and one sleeper coach for Puri-Jodhpur Express, Titilagarh-Howarh Ispat Express and allotment of emergency quota for Rourkela in some trains which will meet the passengers rush.

In his reply, Verma said that he will take up the matters with the higher authorities at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Verma inaugurated a running room for the drivers and guards.
