Development issues of Steel City discussed



Rourkela: On the invitation of Rourkela Intellectual Forum (RIF), political leaders, social activists and intellectuals deliberated on various development issues in the Steel City at the Cultural Academy here last evening.

Initiating the discussion, Forum Secretary Rabi Kanungo spoke about various development issues of Rourkela. He also placed other development issues including a full-fledged airport, construction of second bridge over river Brahmani, round-the-clock functioning of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) head office from here, more number of trains services to and from Rourkela, expediting Talcher- Bimlagarh rail line, converting Rourkela Municipality to Municipal Corporation, construction of new roads, planting more trees in and around the Steel City.

While former minister and MLA of Rourkela Sarada Nayak assured full cooperation for the development of the city, Vice-Chairman of Rourkela Municipality R N Mishra informed about an ongoing development work being taken up by the Municipality.

He, however, said that the Municipality needs more fund to expedite the development work.
During the discussion all the members agreed in principle to strive for the overall development of the City.

Among others former MLA Prabhat Mohapatra, Rourkela Bar Association President Ramesh Bal, Congress leader Biren Senapati, BJP leader Dhiren Senapati, Press Club Secretary Mihir Ray, well-known poet Ashok Chandra Mohapatra, Forum President Debendra Mohanty, Vice President Dr. Shyam Sundar Das and Ushakanti Mohapatra also spoke.

The programme was organized by the Forum coordinator Mahendra Mishra.
