9 RSP workers seriously injured as slab collapses

Rourkela: At least nine contractual workers of Rourkela Steel Plant were today seriously injured in an accident in its premises. The condition of one of them is stated to be critical.

The mishap occurred at 11 pm night when the slab of the cooling tower the workers were working on came crashing down. This is what Gurwa Munda (32), one of the injured, stated.

They were working 36 ft above the ground.

“Though a creaking sound gave hint of something bad going to happen, they could not escape the fall,” another injured said. The condition of Jahrutika is critical and he is admitted to ICU.

All the injured are undergoing treatment at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) Rourkela.

The contractual workers’ union demanded an inquiry to this incident and stern actions against the officers in-charge.
