Rs 20 lakh looted from contractor


Rourkela: Miscreants have today looted cash to the tune of Rs 20.15 lakh from a contractor near Jamunanaki under Biramitrapur police limits of Sundargarh district.

The incident took place while the contractor was carrying the cash Kuanrmunda to pay wages to the daily labourers.

Sources said Krishna Prasad, a contractor working at Thakur Prasad Sao Company of Civil Township area at Rourkela taking Rs 20.15 lakh on a motorcycle from Rourkela to Kuarmunda to pay workers of the company. Two motor-cycle-borne miscreants followed him before snatching away the cash from Prasad at gun point at a solitary place between Vedvyas Chhak and Kuarmunda road near Jamunanaki.

Prasad said that two unknown persons came by a motorcycle and threatened him at gun point.

Prasad lodged an FIR at Kuarmunda Police station. Later Biramitrapur Officer in charge Ramesh Singh have initiated the investigation and visited the spot along with other police men. However, no arrests have been made. Police have interrogated some persons and hopeful of making a breakthrough in the looting case.

It may be noted here that for the last few months some areas in the Steel City have been witnessing cases of looting and snatching cases, which have given the police administration sleepless nights.
