Sport organizations of Steel City celebrated National Sports Day

Rourkela: Different sports organization of the Steel City today observed National Sports Day on organizing different events. Celebrating this Day Chandrasekhar Sports Organisation (CSO) of Rourkela has organized a felicitation programme at Sector-4 in local Dak Bungalow here. 

Being the Chief Guest of this occasion Michael Kindo, Former Indian Hocker player and Olympics bronze medal winner felicitated Hockey player Birendra Lakra of Gurundia village of Sundargarh districts. 

Kindo told that the numbers of Odisha Hockey player are less this time in Indian squad in Olympics 2012. He further said day by day the players are getting less in number from Sundargarh district as it was earlier. The district administration as well as Rourkela Steel authority should provide basic facilities to the players in order to increase its number to represent in national and in international level, he added.

Ananda Mohanty, BJD leader praising CSO for promoting sports in and around Rourkela as well as to Lakra, said “I feel proud that the players from Rourkela as well as from Sundargarh district are representing national and international level.” He urged the organization for encouraging sport and sport person in the district in co-ordination with RSP.

Other dignitaries also praised Lakra for his participation in London Olympics 2012 and spoke about the improvement of sports as well as sport infrastructure in Rourkela for more and more players to participate in various levels.

Among other sport persons like Former Coach Panchanan Ganthayat, Dibakar Mohanty, Boxing Coach S P K Rao, Atheletic Coach P K Mallick, Body-Building Refree Satyabrata Ojha, National Volleyball Refree Sasmita Das, Gangadhar Samal, National woman Volleyball player Ana Dungdung were present. The whole programme was co-ordinated by Debadutta Jena, General Secretary of CSO.

Similarly, a mass rally of students, Panposh Sports Hostel inmates and NCC cadets from Bisra Chowk to Udit Nagar was organized by Rourkela Sports Association. Likewise in the morning inmates of Panposh Sports Hostel under the leadership of its Manager K C Choudhary pay rich tributes to Dhyan Chand at Hockey Chowk. Rourkela ADM RN Mishra also paid floral tribute to Dhyan Chand here.  

It is to be noted that every year on 29th August National Sports Day is celebrated throughout the country on the birthday of legendary Hockey player Dhyan Chand.
