State Police seek grilling of arrested Maoist leader

Rourkela: The Odisha police have decided to request their Jharkhand counterparts to hand over self-styled Maoist area commander Johnson Munda for interrogation in connection with certain cases in the State.

“Yes, we have a plan to bring Munda on remand. We are waiting for Jharkhand police to wrap up their grilling,” IG, Western Range Yashwant Jethwa said today.

Jethwa also confirmed having got the news about arrest of Munda by the Jharkhand police yesterday.

Munda, an area commander who heads the 21st squad, was arrested near Poseita station and security personnel seized one loaded SLR from his possession, in a breakthrough by Jharkhand police in its anti-Maoist operation.

The squad was active in Western Singhbhum in Jharkhand and Keonjhar and Sundargarh in Odisha having operated mainly inside the deep jungles of Saranda.

He belonged to Bitkilsoya village under Jareikela police station limits in Odisha.

Munda is a confidant of Anmol, the area head of Chhotanagpur Division of the Maoists, police said.
