World Quality Day celebrated at RSP

Rourkela: World Quality Day was celebrated at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here today. In the morning, S N Roy, ED (Works) hoisted the Quality Flag at the Main Gate of the Plant in the presence of senior officers of the plant.

On this occasion, the employees of RSP took pledge to provide defect-free products and services to all the customers on time by establishing an effective Quality Management System. Similar flag hoisting and pledge taking ceremonies were also held at ED (Works) office, Town Engineering office, and ED (Projects) office.

A function was also organized at Gopabandhu Auditorium under the chairmanship of Roy. Speaking on the occasion, Roy said that RSP has crossed many a milestone in its journey of Quality. He also emphasized that Quality is not confined to products or processes only. Quality has to be ensured in every aspect of life and living, he added.

Pankaj Lochan, Chief of Business Performance Enhancement (Operation), Tata Steel and the key note speaker, in his address elaborated on how change is the essence of sustainability. Citing examples of many global industries, he drew home the importance of developing an Integral TQM framework for holistic growth.

Addressing the employees through a recorded message which was telecast on RSTV, RSP CEO G S Prasad said that in a global marketplace, a major characteristic that distinguishes those organizations that have achieved distinction is the quality of leadership, management, employees, work processes, product and service. Thus, Quality is the key which opens the door to excellence in business, he added.

Trophies were presented to Ore Bedding and Blending Plant and Spiral Weld Pipe Plant for achieving ‘Best Quality Parameters’ from the Iron & Steel zone and Rolling Mills zones respectively. Winners of the essay, debate and quiz competitions organized to mark the occasion were also awarded on this occasion.

A documentary titled ‘Quality: Transcending boundaries’ made by the Public Relations department was another highlight of the programme.
