Odishi Consumer Fair kicks off

Rourkela: The Odishi Consumer Fair, organized by Expo Event Management Group (EEMG) began at the Utmal Club inside L & T campus at Kansbahal near the steel city here last evening.

Inaugurating the 10-day Fair, Rajgangpur MLA Gregori Minz said that the Fair will provide opportunity to the people to buy traditional items brought up from different districts and States.

Going round the stall, he praised the organizers for holding such event at a small place like Kansbahal. “It will certainly be an inspiration for others to organize such type of Fair”, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjib Nayak, Head, EEMG, informed that there are a total of 55 stalls including Utkalika of the Odisha State Handicraft Corporation Limited at the Fair in which a variety of traditional items from all districts of Odisha are showcased.

Of these stalls, Utkalika has announced a discount up to 20 per cent on different products.

“Though the area of the venue is small, we are still hopeful of a business transaction of about Rs 40- Rs 50 lakh”, Nayak said.

He said that the EEMG in September this year had organized this Fair in Rourkela where a business transaction worth about Rs 1 crore was made.

“We have planned to organize our next Fair at the Baliyatra venue in Cuttack where we expect a huge business transaction”, Nayak added.

He said that the Fair had a business transaction of Rs 1.5 lakh on the second day.

With the onset of winter several stalls have exhibited a variety of winter clothes like jackets, blankets, hand gloves, head-scarfs, shawls etc.

Apart from this, leather bags, tribal ornaments, Brass filigree items, Berhampuri, Sambalpuri, Bomkei, Maniabandha Pata Sarees, Pipili Chandua, Coir items, cooking appliances are on the display.

Besides, branded products like Honey Wells, Eureka Forbes, Kent Water Purifier, teleshopping products, Shahranpur (UP) furniture, Vododara (UP) carpets, Rajasthani bedsheets, pickles, ornaments and other ladies items have also been put up.

Besides, the Fair has also stalls put up by some study centres imparting information on management studies and distance education.

The Fair to be continued till November 25, will remain open from 10 am to 9 pm.
