Attack on scribe condemned

Rourkela: Members of Rourkela chapter of Odisha Journalists’ Union (OJU) today strongly condemned the attack on a journalist working with an electronic media on October 27 in Bhubaneswar. They demanded stern action against the persons involved in the attack. They also demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

The journalists’ fraternity submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the ADM Rourkela. The OJU expressed concern over the delay in taking action against the culprits. They pressed for steps to protect journalists in the state.

In the memorandum, the OJU stated that Basanta Kumar Nayak, a cameraman of Naxtra TV was brutally assaulted on the October 27 evening at Barmunda Bus stand by some miscreants along with some bus staff.

Attacks on the fourth pillar in a democracy state has become dime a dozen, they alleged, adding that all this is happening due to lack of stringent action against the accused persons.
