Minor fire in RSP administrative building

Rourkela: A minor fire broke out in the administrative building of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here at around 6 am today.

The fire, which erupted in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Centre-I have affected badly as damage was caused to the centre’s official documents and to several computers and no one was hurt, RSP sources said.

On contacted to its PRO department, the officials informed that there was a fault in one of the fans in ERP centre-I situated on the ground floor of the seven-storied administrative building. As a result there was a small fire which was immediately brought under control.

However, there was no significant damage due to fire and ERP services in the steel plant remained unaffected, they said adding investigation was going on to ascertain the cause.

Developmental trial of Astra missile conducted

Rourkela: India today conducted developmental trial of its indigenously developed beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile ‘Astra’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 15 km from Balasore. The sophisticated missile was test-fired from a launcher in launch pad-2 of the ITR at about 01.25 PM targeting a flying object being supported by a pilotless target air-craft ‘Lakshya’, defence sources said. The single stage, solid fuelled ‘Astra’ missile is more advanced in its category than the contemporary BVR missiles and is capable of engaging and destroying highly manoeuvrable supersonic aerial targets. The 3.8-metre long missile, having a diameter of 178 mm with an overall launch weight of 160 kg, can carry a warhead containing conventional explosives weighing 15 kg.
